USA has by far been the most dominant team in 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men and on Friday, they continued the demolishing act
Point guard Tyus Jones hammered 22 points and dished out 6 assists while Justice Winslow rapped up a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds as Team USA qualified for the semifinals with a 113-59 win over Canada.
Three other US players scored in double figures with Joel Berry managing 15. Jabari Parker put up 10 points with 8 rebounds while Jahlil Okafor also scored 10.
Canada were paced by 17 points from Justin Jackson while Tyrell Bellot-Green ended the night with 12. No other Canadian managed above 6 points in a game where they shot only 34 percent from the two point range, made 2 of the 18
three point attempts, and converted only 7-of-12 from the free throw line.
United States in comparison were on fire from the floor. They connected on 48 of 86 from the two point range and also knocked down 4 three pointers. They thumped the Canadians 55-31 on the boards, handed out 8 more assists and
had a 72-34 advantage on the points in the paint.
Despite the emphatic eventual scoreline, Canada actually had a better start to the game and were leading by a deuce nearly midway through the first quarter.
USA took their first lead at 13-11 with 4:18 to go and after some dogged resistance, embarked on a 13-4 run, finishing the first quarter with a 26-15 edge.
Canada tried hard to cut the deficit in the second quarter, but their neighbours punched back on every occasion. With 6:21 remaining in the half, Conner Frankamp drilled a three pointer to push the US lead to 29-17 and from there
on the lead remained in double figures.
USA was leading by as many as 18 going into the last minutes of the second frame before a Jackson jumper brought it to 46-30 at the interval.
Canada provided some resistance to USA in the first half, but with the advent of the second, they just melted infront of a red hot American offense.
USA outscored Canada 32-13 in the third and then humiliated them 35-16 in the last 10 minutes, romping to a 113-59 win. They will now face Spain in the semifinals due to be played tomorrow and given the form, team USA is in, the
