USA trounce China, 116-47: proceed to the quarterfinals of
2012 FIBA U17 World Championship
On Wednesday, July4, 2012 USA improved to a 5-0 record in 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship.
The reigning champions continued to ride hot towards winning another title rolling over the Chinese 116-47.
USA had 7 players scoring in double figure index. Conner Frankamp marshalled all players with 17 points, and small forward Stephen Domingo added 16 points. Stanley Johnson collected 15 points while Kendrick Nunn,
centre Chukwunonso Nduka-Anya and Jahlil Okafor poured in 13 points each in America’s 5thconsecutive victory.
On the other hand China didn’t have a single player posting in double figures. Heng Yi Feng and Yang Lin Yi netted 9 points each to lead China, who 47 points tally was the third lowest total in the history of
U17 Worlds Men championship.
Early in the 1st frame the scores were tied at 4 each, but USA reeled off a 9-0 burst and claimed a 13-4 lead. China could only come as close as 13-9 when USA pulled off another 11-1 spurt
to conclude the segment at 24-10.
China went ice cold in the 2nd period, and America went on to balloon their advantage. With 5:29 in hand they were having a 35-18 lead. Frankamp hit one from down town and that resulted
in to a huge 18-0 run. By the end of 1st half USA were enjoying an unquestionable 53-18 lead.
The mammoth lead allowed them to cruise through the following segment, as midway into the third USA were having 42 points, 63-21 lead. China tried to harness the lead but they could only come as close as 77-34
by the end of 3rdquarter.
USA victory was never in doubt, but they kept on punishing China in the decisive frame. America pulled off another huge 27-8 spurt and grabbed an unquestionable 104-42 lead. Americans finally put an end to Chinese
suffering after reeling another 12-5 run. With this run they handed over the most ignominious, 116-47 defeat to China.
America proceeded towards the quarterfinals after securing the 1st birth in group A. they had an average winning margin of 50.8 points and will confront Canada in their next match.
