I like what both have to offer but which one do you think would be the cooler job? I would love to conduct more direct action stuff rather than playing with satellites... also which specialty has a better chance of pulling someone up to Special Tactics?

Thanks

  1. Both are the best of the best.  PJ also gives medical treatment (field triage).  CCT set up airfields and call in air strikes behind enemy lines. Either job requires significant training and you have to be in outstanding physical condition.

  2. Both are "cool" jobs. What it comes down to is what you want to do. They are two different jobs within the Special Operations community.

As for Special Tactics, all STS have a mix of CCT and PJs, it's a joint team. BOTH careerfields deploy with other services SOF as well, SEALs, Army SF, Army Rangers, etc.  PJs are also assigned to RQS (Rescue Squadrons), their primary mission is rescue, though they are often attached to various SOF teams when deployed.

If you want more direct action, however, you need to look into other jobs. A PJ/CCT's primary mission is not that of a shooter. Yes, he may have to play that role, but that's not his bread and butter. If DA is what you truly want, you'd be better looking into other jobs.

  3. Both have roles in SOCOM (Special Operations Command).  PJ tend to fly more either rotary wing or fixed wing.  Lots of skills sets besides medicine.

USAF CCTs were the thirteenth man in 12 man Special Forces Group A-teams when Green Berets went into Afghanistan.  While this isn't a normal slot they to can find themselves in harms way.
