USAF Wives.. Where Are You Stationed??

My last question about this was deleted. I will be stationed in Ramstein, Germany with my husband very soon. If you have any information regarding Ramstein, please share.

Charleston SC, i've heard good things about Ramstein, but i heard they have stairwell housing which isn's so great, their are building townhome style housing now but who knows when they will be ready

Grew up there before it was a headquarters base, and then was stationed at Spangdahlem, about an hour away, for almost 6 years as a spouse.  Ramstein definitely has more "stuff" and is much more Americanized.  Harder to really get a good feel for what German life is like when they cater to the Americans down there.  

Get out and away from the base as much and as often as you can!  Explore, travel, and see everything you can!!   Don't let the lack of language skills stop you... take a basic German class through the community centers or through Family Readiness.  You'll be treated much better if you attempt the language than if you go into shops with nothing at all.

There are some great travel guides, put out by the spouses groups, that are full of great info.  Take advantage of them and what others have already researched.  

If you are a crafter or a sewer, just know that you'll be shopping on line.  Not real good selection and a bit pricey.

Whatever you do, don't sit on base the whole time and feel sorry for yourself.  Even when he's gone, join up with some friends and explore!

Edit:stairwell housing isn't neccessarily that bad.  We did at Spang and loved the security of everyone around when DH was constantly deployed.
