USAV announces Men’s Junior National Training Team Roster
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) is set to organise the 2011 Men’s Junior World Championship from August 1-10.
The beautiful Brazilian Capital Rio de Janeiro will be the host of this exciting campaign, while world’s best Under-21 volleyball teams will be on board to showcase their skills. In this connection, the participating countries are going through the process
of finalising their team rosters. In the recent memory, USA Volleyball (USAV) declared a 19-player training-team roster for the 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World championship. The names of players on training team roster are as followed:
Micah Christenson Matt West Connor Olbright Joshua Taylor Maurice Torres Eric Mochalski Scott Kevorken Dylan Davis Grayson Overman Jeff Ornee Jeremy Dejno Taylor Sander Robart Page Brian Cook Taylor Crabb Steven Irwin Jace Olsen Michael Brinkley Henry Cassiday
The US team’s training camp will be held one month before the official opening of the championship. The GaREAT Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio will provide the training facilities to U.S. team.
The team will be supervised by head coach John Hawks from Long Beach California, while he will be assisted by two other team coaches; Colin McMillan (Penn State) and David Hunt (Pepperdine). The players will undergo extensive training and only 12 players
will find their names on the final roster of the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team, which will represent the country at 2011 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.
The current training roster of the U.S. Junior Team is mostly comprised of the previous team members, who worked out a great performance during the last season. The U.S. Junior Team captured the 2010 NORCECA Men’s Junior Championship in Gatineau, Quebec.
Likewise, the team did an amazing job at various national campaigns. Hence, eleven of the players from that team have been chosen for this year’s training-team roster. It is likely that most of them will pave their way to the final list of players.
In addition to players, the head coach and one of the assistant coaches of 2010 U.S. Junior National Team have been given preference to lead the team. David Hunt is the only one new to staff, while rest of the staff almost remains the same. Hunt was previously
attached with Pepperdine University as an assistant coach.
Talking of the upcoming event and current team roster, Hawks said, “Naturally, it’s going to be tough because you’re in the second year of the cycle. These new kids are stepping into a team that’s already gelled and won a gold medal together; however, we
do expect a seamless transition with the new athletes going forward.”
The U.S. team has big plans for the world championship. Let’s see how do they prove their endeavours and confirm their ambition for victory.
