USAV announces the roster of women’s volleyball team for the Olympics – Volleyball News
The USA Volleyball (USAV) revealed the roster of women’s national volleyball for the 2012 London Olympic Games on Tuesday.
A total of twelve players will be on board to represent America at the Olympics. The 12-team roster of US women’s national volleyball includes: Lindsey Berg, Christa Harmotto, Courtney Thompson, Tamari Miyashiro, Megan Hodge, Jordan Larson, Destinee Hooker,
Nicole Davis, Logan Tom, Tayyiba Haneef-Park, Foluke Akinradewo, and Danielle Scott-Arruda.
The US team will enter the Olympic Games under the command of Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon. The team mentor described the difficulty in choosing the final set of players. He stated: "We've developed a lot of depth in this program over the course of the Olympic
quadrennial and, as you would expect, it was very difficult to determine the final composition of this team.
He further added: "However, after a lot of time and deliberation, we all believe that the group we've selected gives our program the best possible chance of being successful in London."
The American team will make a fourth appearance at the Olympics. In the last three editions of the Olympic Games, US team managed to play in the finals, but could not grab the top slot. In 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics, US team finished fourth. Next up, the
American women were placed fifth in the 2004 Athens Games. The US team showed remarkable improvement in the 2008 Olympic Games that took place in Beijing, China and settled for silver medal victory.
In the next run, the ladies around Coach Hugh McCutcheon are determined to claw their way to the No. 1 position. US team recently made a hat-trick of titles at the FIVB World Grand Prix. It was a wonderful experience for US team to win a world title right
before the start of Olympic Games. Currently, the team is enjoying a great rhythm and tone, which will certainly help the American musketeers to find the glory in the upcoming Olympics.
The women’s Olympic volleyball tournament will take centre stage at the Earls Court on July 28. A total of 12 teams will be up to vie for the Olympic title. Initially, the teams will be divided into two pools. US team will be placed in Pool B alongside China,
Brazil, Turkey, Korea, and Serbia.
