I used to have a USB port that I could plug an Ethernet cable into...Anybody know where to get one/what it is specifically?

  1. It's not worth it. A 1.1 USB port cannot provide enough throughput for a 100 Mbps connection. The device might work, but you can't achieve over 10 Mbps, which will suck tremendously for file transfers between computers.

I would recommend getting a PC Card adapter instead. These will be much faster.

I bought a similar card on eBay for about $12, which is about the same cost as the USB to Ethernet adapters on there. And this one will also be capable of Gigabit speeds, which you can'e get even with a 2.0 USB port.
