  1. its because there is usually a foramated partition on those drives the entire space is there but with the partition it takes up more memory that u cant see

  2. Hi!

Unfortunately all memory devices have this problem, my 80gb hard drive is really only 76.4, and my iPod nano seems to have lost another 300mb somewhere.

You could take it back if you want, although the same problem will exist with every usb flash drive. 7.5gb is still a lot of space so i wouldn't worry.

  3. try viewing hidden files, look through the whole flash drive.  and read the box, maybe they rounded up or something.  if there's no hidden files or no visible files, and it's stlil less then 7.5, then you should start complaining.

  4. These missing megabytes are required for formatting, without this, you couldn't save anything to it. The bigger the capacity, the larger the space needed for formatting.

  5. wow! that is weird... they riped u off.. take it back to the store u got it ata nd ask them wut is going on... myby the company screwed up and put it in the wrong thing.

  6. As some others have said it is normal, some of the space may be software associated with the "secure II plus" or they may have given you some trial software on the drive. And some of it could be from the formatting (the partition info)

Hard drives and jump drives are NEVER at what they are advertised to be - look at your hard drive on the computer - it was probably a 160G but if you would have looked at it it would say something like 158G

  7. Couple of reasons

    1) there may be installed software on it.

    2) There is a difference between how humans count to 1 GB and how computers count to 1 GB,

Humans use decimal GB where 1 GB = 1000 MB, computers use binary GB where 1024 Kb = 1 MB and 1024 MB = 1 GB. This means that a drive with 8,000,000,000 bytes on it will be a decimal 8 GB drive, but the computer will count it as about 7% less - or 7.45 binary GB

But -- it's still the same 8 billion bytes either way - you are not missing any memory.  It is normal, and all drives have this 'problem' (which isn't a problem, it's just a difference in terminology)

(ignore the people who say the space is lost to formatting.  Not true)

  8. dont return it. thats just the way memory is measured.

  9. Ok this is normal and their is no reason to take it back to the store. Their is one of 2 reasons you dont have that 500 mb

    1. Does your USB drive have any program on it weather it be an encrypting software etc.

    2. The have to format it. when they format it make it look like its of a less size. And this is extremely neccasary because if they didnt format it your computer wouldn't read it at all.

The way you know that its due to formating is when it say the total space of the USB is 7.5 GB.

The way you know its due to files and programs on it etc. is when it says 500 MB used and (insert number here) GB available

  10. it is usual.

it will talk some memory for it's use

  11. it's normal..
