Ok I always go to my neighbors house to play xbox with him and then go home and everytime i have to recover my gamertag and it sucks. I have read that you can save it to a memory unit and take it with you that way but I really don't feel like buying one. I have a usb flash drive, its a SanDisk Cruzer Mini, and i was wondering if there is any way i can save it to that and take it with me that way.

  1. Hi, I,ve recently been looking all over town for a HDD since my Xbox 360 wasn't supplied with one. I havn't had any luck so far and have been searching the net for some, even if they are only 20GB, i only need 10GB - I dont use much space. While searching the net i came across an article about USB Flash Drives being used as Xbox 360 Hard Drives once they've been Formatted. I had 1 USB but couldn't find it today, and another thing is that i say some 8 USB's being sold for $5, but didn't think i needed one. I am planning on buying some soon.

I think that being able to use a USB as a Hard Drive is convenient because the actul microsoft HDD are at exaggerated prices.

  2. With the latest dashboard update a USB flash drive can now be used to save games, dlc and your xbox live profile. You simply need to connect a USB stick with a minimum 1GB size to your Xbox 360, then from the System Settings>Memory, select that USB flash drive and configure it (it will erase the content of your flash drive, be warned). It takes about 30 seconds and then it comes back as a Xbox 360 memory unit. 512MB is always reserved for Xbox 360 system, so on a 1GB stick you would get 512MB storage space.

The Xbox 360 can use any size drive, but it will max out at 16GB for storage space. If your drive is bigger than 16GB, the remaining space can be used by a PC. The Xbox 360 supports a maximum of 2 simultaneous connected flash drives formatted with 16GB, giving you a total of 32GB of storage space over flash drive.

If your drive is less than 16GB in size and you would like to keep some space available to be used by a PC, select the configure option when you go to setup the USB drive the first time on your 360 and you'll be able to choose how much space to allocate to the Xbox.

In my case, I went a bought a Mushkin 16GB USB flash drive with great read/write speeds and dedicated all it's space to my Xbox. I keep a seperate flash drive for my PC files to avoid any chance of messing up the Xbox formatted USB flash drive.

Once your all setup, all of your existing Xbox games will see the USB flash drive as a "Xbox Memory Unit", so you'll be able to save directly to it in-game. The data transfer feature on the Xbox 360 has also been updated, making it easy to move your existing save games, dlc and profile over to your new formatted USB flash drive.

  4. there is a way you can use a flash drive.  But there is only a certain type that works and it is the SanDisk cruzer crossfire but i don't think they are at stores like best buy or walmart.  But there is one store that i had just checked.  Go to http://www.gamestop.com/ and type in in the search bar: flash drives.  You should see a cruzer crossfire and it is only $4.99!  I am going to buy 3!
