USB Hard Drive - Won't recognize. I have attempted to utilize a Kingbyte (?) external USB Hard

I have attempted to utilize a Kingbyte (?) external USB Hard drive to no avail. There was a floppy disc included with the set, but everything I've tried still results in an error message about the USB devise not be recognized. Recommendations? Thanks.
