Question:

USB digital drive not reading 8gb card?

I have an HP USB digital drive for my memory cards. So far I've no problems with it reading the cards so I can upload my pictures from my camera to my computer (this is a portable drive as my computer is older & therefore does not have a card reader built in). The largest SD card I've put in is 2gb and did not have any problems. However, I recently got a new camera that can use larger cards so I purchased an 8gb. I can see the pictures on the camera with no problem. I decided to upload them to my computer & nothing happens, it just stalls. Can't see anything on the card when it's plugged into the digital drive (portable) & then into my computer - it's frozen.

What could be the problem? Any ideas?

Oh I usually use SanDisk SD cards but this 8gb is a Transcend SDHC Class 6 8gb. The camera utilizes the SDHC cards, it is a Panasonic Lumix 9.1mp, 10x optical zoom with HD capabilities for video recording.

Thanks!

  1. Most likely the HP USB device you are using does not support SDHC cards.  Anything 4 GB or larger is an SDHC card, and this newer format is probably not supported by your USB device.
