USB key help, what does this folder do?

On my USB key, I found a file called ".Trashes". Can someone please tell me what it's for and what would happen if I deleted it ie would it be bad to?

Deleting it is like emptying the recycle bin on you computer,  when you delete things off of your USB key they go to your .Trashes folder.
