What function does the USB port do on the projector? I found a USB cable for it and hooked it up to the projector and my computer. My computer isn't recognizing anything and I'm curious what the USB port is used for?

  1. Are you sure that model number is right? I don't see a USB connection on the EP719, the EP721 has one though. In any case, the USB would not be used for RS-232 control. On the Optomas the USB port is for connecting to your PC so you can control the mouse from the projector remote. RS-232 control is via the 8-pin mini-din connector, or via a db9 connector on some gear.

  2. It's for RS232 control.

Some home entertainment and professional equipment can be controlled through an automation system instead of the IR remote control. They use RS232 as a communication protocol. In this case, the data is sent via the USB port. It has no other function on your projector except maybe as a diagnostics port.
