USC Trojans offensive tackle Matt Kalil ready for 2012 drafts – NFL News
With the January 15th deadline approaching for college players to declare themselves available for the drafts many talented young players are announcing their availability for selection.
On Thursday University of Southern California’s offensive tackle Matt Kalil announced that he is ready to enter April’s NFL draft.
"It was definitely a tough decision because I love 'SC," Kalil said. "But it’s a special opportunity. It’s time to move on."
Kalil has impressed significantly at the college level winning numerous individual awards for his performances which includes many All-American awards. He is expected to be a top five pick in the 2012 drafts and has the physique
to develop into one of the best offensive tackles in the league.
His decision may likely help his other Trojan teammates such as quarterback Matt Barkley, safety T.J McDonald and tight end Nick Perry decide whether they want to continue playing at the college level for another year or go pro.
Kalil’s family has a great history in the sport. His father played for Arkansas and Arizona while his more famous brother Ryan Kalil plays Centre for Carolina Panthers and his recent extension makes him the highest paid centre
in National Football League history.
Matt Kalil has informed his Coach Lane Kiffin of his decision to sign up for the drafts as well and is in the process of looking for an agent.
"We had a heart to heart and he said he supports any decision I make," Kalil said.
Matt is expected to sign up with agent Tom Condon of CAA sports who represents some of the National Football League’s superstars such as Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
Kalil however has not reached a decision yet and is in the process of selecting his agent.
He will become the first lineman to declare for the drafts and ESPN scouts are putting the offensive tackle as the second pick overall being beaten by just quarterback Andrew Luck of Stanford who has already made the decision to
sign up for the drafts.
The offensive tackle played for Servite high school in Anaheim before becoming part of the USC Trojans side as backup. He became first choice in 2009 and did not give away any sacks in the 2011 season.
