How does the housing situation work after boot camp in the Coast Guard? Is it like other militaries where they put you in barracks, or do you have to get your own place??

  2. my experience was quite a few years ago, but, there wasplenty of assistance available to arrange transportation,to your next duty station, if a shore unit, the living accomodations are quite comfortable, if a cutter you live aboard,if you have a family, accomodations can be made ifbase housing is available, in advance, my first duty station was a lifeboat station, that housed everyone in a three story building with limited dependent housing, when you leave basic you can get that info, prior to departure, however in my case i was sent to district 13, in seattle and then transferred to a duty station, i believe the system is pretty much the same now
