USGA Championship: Casie Cathrea sets Lake Merced GC course record
Casie Cathrea, the American player, has set a new course record for the Lake Merced Golf Club at the US Girls’ Junior Championship. She played a 6-under-par 66 on the 6291-yard long course.
Casie Cathrea was playing in the second round of the event and won her match against fellow American player, Karen Chung. After a great game, Cathrea defeated Chung with a score of 5 and 3.
This was a great recovery for Cathrea who did not seem up to her mark in the first round. She barely won her first game with a score of 148 to 158. The game turned exciting as both the players appeared to be equally matched.
Given this performance, it did not appear that Cathrea would do any better in the second round. When she drew Chung as the opponent in the second round, many experts were not very sure of the results.
However, Cathrea’s performance has now proven beyond doubt that she will become a formidable opponent in the coming rounds. She has already cleared two rounds and the coming rounds will become tough.
The next round will be the third round of the event. She will face top players who already have considerable experience in playing golf at various national and international tournaments.
If Cathrea makes it to the semi-finals, she will be up against players such as Lydia Ko and Ariya Jutanugarn. Both these players are at the top of their game. Cathrea will have to play some great golf in order to gain advantage over these players.
Ariya Jutanugarn is the defending champion of the US Girls’ Junior Championship. She is a well known golfer who is the current world’s number three amateur. This status alone is enough to establish Jutanugarn’s credentials. She will defend her title to
become the third such player to do so.
Lydia Ko is the biggest threat to any player in the Championship. She is the world’s best amateur with skills and confidence to play against the best pros in the world.
Casie Cathrea has set a new course record. Whether she wins or loses, this record will stand as a testimony to her golf skills.
