I would like know about how often would a Marine in the avionics field get deployed and on average for about how long? Also while deployed would he still be working on the aircraft or would he be out on patrol with all the other Marines?

  1. WOW - my son is in the Corps. He is in the aviation field and does his nomral duty station rotation (3 years) and deploys for 6 months at a time when his squadron deploys. He still did his job in the squadron.

  2. My husband is in Aviation with the USMC.

It really depends on what he'll be doing, he could be doing his MOS on deployment or he could be combat. If he gets sent on the MEU or gets deployed to Africa then he would be doing his MOS. But if he gets deployed to Iraq he would be doing combat. Thats how my husbands squadron runs things. Some of the guys get sent to Iraq, some to Africa and some to the MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit).. If they go to Africa or they go on the MEU they do their MOS .. if Iraq, they do combat.

Usually that MOS gets deployed for 6-8 months. However, one of my husbands friends that went to Iraq was there for 13 months.

Everything can change in a second. They may tell him hes only going to 6 months, but if they still need him they'll keep him for 8.

Throw me a message if you have further questions.
