USMC Dress Blue Uniform

Do you get issued your dress blues at boot camp, or do you have to buy them? I know you get issued your service uniform, but I was wondering about the blues because I've heard some people say they never got them. If they are not issued, when do you get them? When can you buy them and how much are they?

  1. Yes, you receive your service uniforms but that still is deducted from your pay but at a cheaper rate than if you bought them on your own.  You would only receive your dress blues out of boot camp if you are the honor graduate of your platoon.  At least that is what had happened when i graduated from boot camp.  Also, as sson as you graduate you get the opportunity to take you family and friends who come to graduation around the training depot, and there is a uniform store there for you to purchase them if you want to.  when i had purchased mine they cost me approx. 500 for everything.

  2. you just asked this question..................

  3. As of August 07 dress blues are now issued before you leave boot.  Just like any other part of your uniforms, it comes out of your pay.  My youngest came out of boot in May 07 and was hoping they'd changed it earlier.  Plt Honormen and Co Honorman are issued full dress blues prior to graduation, they'll be the only ones wearing them on graduation day.

  4. My understanding is that only the top two graduates in a boot camp platoon get a free set of dress blues.   Otherwise you have to buy them out of pocket.

I'm not sure what they cost but my guess is about $500 with all the accesories and trimmings.
