I just got a letter from my daughter at Parris Island. She wrote something about two recruits getting yelled at on the Quarter Deck. Can someone from the USMC tell me what the Quarter Deck is?

Thanks in advance.

  1. ts the deck you get once you put 2 dime decks and 1 mickle deck together!

    -or-

its the deck right after the dime deck!

    -or-

Its the deck you get when you divided a dollar deck by 4!

sorry but I just had to say that but honestly I do not know.

  2. the quarterdeck is where the pain lives.

it's where your DI thrashes you (excuse me, exercises you) until you puke.

  3. In boot camp the recruits live in a squadbay.  It is a long building that has rows of bunks lined up - just like in the first part of the movie "Full Metal Jacket".  There is a common area at the front of the rows of racks, usually just outside of where the drill instructor's office is and the door that leads to the bathrooms (or "heads", as we Marines call them).  Most of the terms Marines use have Maritime origins.  Quarterdeck is a good example of this.    Just an aside - not usually a good thing to be singled out to come up to the quarterdeck - usually means you're going to do some bends and thrusts for some minor infraction.  Good luck and congrats on having a prospective Marine in the family.
