Hello I am trying to get the quote for USPS media mail for a book that is about 2-3 lbs. Can I wrap it at my house or do I have to show them its a book inside before I seal it?

  1. You can wrap it at your house.  I do it all the time. The only time they generally will want to see it is if the weight indicates that it could be something else.  My sister also said that they opened a box that contained DVDs just to verify that was all that was in the box (if you have anything else, it must go a different way).

  2. You can wrap there but they have the right to inspect.  Keep in mind, media mail can take a couple of weeks to arrive.

  3. You can wrap it at your house. The Post Office employees are pretty good at judging whether something inside a package really is a book, CD, or whatever.

  4. You can wrap your book at your house. Keep in mind though that because there have been so many abuses with media mail, the post office will want to reserve the right to open your package at any time along the route.

When you get to the post office they will ask you about the contents so that it is confirmed that your pkg. is indeed "media mail" (books, magazine, tape, cd, video).

You can check for an approximation of price$ at usps.com. Enter a weight and zip code (origin & destination) and you will be given several different prices including media mail for your package.
