  1. I can give you my input as a former J2 racer.  This year's requirements remain the same as last years: Women's SL 155 cm, GS 175 cm 21 m radius; Men's SL 165 cm, GS 180 cm 21 m radius.  SG should be 195 for women and around 200 for men, with a 33 m radius for both--I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm pretty positive.  First year racers should ski on their new skis regularly--sometimes it helps if 2nd year J3s ski to the J2 requirements in anticipation of the next year.  I had an awfully hard time making the jump to my 21 m radius GS skis when I was a first year J2--my Atomics were way too stiff for me.  I'm on Volkl Racetigers right now and I absolutely love them--Eastern GS courses tend to be extremely tight and cranky as well as icy, so a softer GS ski helps.  Have fun and good luck!

  2. Check the USSA web site for all of the rules of competition. Also ask your coach.  It will vary with the event, if I remember right FIS world cup level it is 155 for men and 150 for women, That may be slalom.   The ussa website is running again. J2  GS men is 180cm.
