Question:

UTorrent??? Ports???

by  |  earlier

I've downloaded & installed uTorrent and it says that I need to set an open port. Then there is a link that says "test to see if port is forwarded properly" when I click that (NO MATTER WHAT PORT I PUT IN) it says:

"Checking port (Whatever I Enter) on (My IP Address[I don't think I should give my IP out])...

Error! Port (Whatever I Enter) does not appear to be open."

How can I get a port working? When I skip this step uTorrent doesn't work for some reason. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem.

  1. I don't use single downloader applications, so I don't know about torrents.  I don't recommend using limewire or frostwire but both if them download torrent files.  Same speed as uTorrent, takes years to download.

  2. I use the program Vuze for items like this. It doesn't give you those problems plus torrents go faster than most torrent programs.

  3. There is a great guide for opening router ports for uTorrent right here.

  4. In order to open a port you have to set rules and exceptions in your firewall and router allowing uTorrent communications through.

This guide on setting up uTorrent for best speed has info and links to guides for setting up firewalls and routers for uTorrent:

  5. You need to configure it in your router, this site will help you configure most routers.

  6. If you are using a router, then the problem is from the router.  It is very easy to solve. I do have the solution for it but please let me know if you are using a router, because it's kinda long
