Is it safe to have a uv tattoo? I already have a normal tattoo and i thought it would be cool to get a UV tattoo but i am not sure where you can get one done and if its safe. Could the uv ink cause any harm?

I thought uv was harmfull.

  1. The thing about the safety of UV tattoos is that there really has not been enough research done to determine the safety of them.  They have not been around for all that long, and there is still a lot of debate around them.  Some artists will not do them at all because of this, while other artists claim that there is nothing to be concerned about as far as the safety of UV tattooing goes.

However, I do believe that there are a few FDA approved UV inks being manufactured at this point in time.  Over the years, the formula for the UV ink has been improved, but still - there just is not enough research on this to give you a definitive answer.  Some people report having rashes and serious skin problems develop after getting a UV tattoo, while others have no problems at all.

I have posted a few links in my sources for you to check out if you're interested.  They contain more information on UV tattoos and news articles about them.

  2. I have a friend with a couple uv tattoos. It's hard to get them done because a lot shops don't carry the ink because it usually doesn't stay in the skin well. It's called uv ink because it's uv reactant with the light, it doesn't have uv in it. It sort of acts like white ink, where you can't see it but when you tan it shows up more (and obviously shows up in black light).
