I was thinking of getting a UVB lamp for my turtle. I just need information and where to buy it. I need a holder for my 5 gallon tank and I need a cheap place to buy it. Like somewhere that has a holder around $15- $40 dollars. And a light around $15 - $ 30 dollars.

If u can help me find a lamp holder that is cheap and also the light...please gimme a website of it or tell me the store.

Only in canada...

Thanks if u can help :D

  1. UVB..is not as good as the UVA and last longer.  Petco or Petsmart has them, I am not sure if you have them in Canada.

    Order on line!

get on to a website called 'drsfostermith' they are a great place and have a anniversary SALE  everything 25% off.  They even have on line chats with live people that you can ask questions..for what you need.

    Fast shipping and good prices.

Maybe you can get a bigger tank, thats pretty small for a turtle, if you have an aquatic one.

They grow fast! A 55 plus size tank. The bigger the environment the bigger the turtle.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They need leafy greens( Romaine, Butter lettuce. Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles from his nose, swollen eyes..so many illnesses.

  2. Skip the UVB and get a new tank- 5 gallons is way too small. UVB has been proven to not be necessary for Red-ears if their diet is good. You can do this in captivity by just providing a good brand-name pellet that includes vitamin D3 for part of the diet.

The article about UVB is here: http://www.turtlesurvival.org/abstract07...

  3. I'm not an expert on turtles but there are people here http://www.herpcenter.com/herp-center-in... who are. You may have to register.(free)
