UVM- Can I Get In?!?

I'm a senior in high school and I really want to go to UVM the only problem is that I haven't taken very challenging courses and my sophomore year really brought my GPA down, but from that year I have raised my grades extremely high, and I am taking 2 Advanced Courses next half, I have gone above what they reccomend for minimum acceptence, or what the minimum is to apply. I have done Field Hockey for 2 years, Lacrosse for my third year this year, I am on math team and yearbook, I am def. retaking the SATs, I plan on doing community service at DHMC (Dartmouth) I am joining a program at my church to do Habitat For Humanity and help out the earth and the people in my community. i am hoping to graduate with a 3.0 maybe even a 3.1 I know that's low but I have heard of people who got in with that. I will have really great recommendations and am focusing a TON on my essay to them.

Do you think i have a shot?

  1. I think that you have a pretty fair chance of getting in. I'll tell you though, one of my best friends applied there and did not get in. His GPA was about a 2.8, maybe a little less than that...but his SATs were really good. He got above an 1800 (out of 2400), however he didn't do many extra curriculars. All he had to show on his transcript were three years of sports (he did three seasons - Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor track his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year). His mother went there as well, and he still did not get in, but do not let me discourage you.

Colleges like well rounded people, so the fact that you have sports and extra curriculars such as service and math club are great. Also, they'll see you've improved a lot since your Sophomore year, which will show them that you're working harder. If you have great recommendations and you do a kick *** essay, it'll help your chances so I'd say that you definitely have a fair chance of getting in.

UVM is one of the hardest public universities to get in, and the people I know who go there say it's pretty challenging and they're all very smart, which i'm sure you are too.

Just apply and be confident. If you don't get in, maybe think about going somewhere else for a year then reapplying as a transfer student. :)

Good luck on your applications and everything, I'm right there with you seeing as I'm going through college process as well (and most of my friends just went through it).

Also! I HIGHLY recommend you check out this website:

    www.collegeboard.com

Make an account, and search UVM. You can fill out ally our information - grades, SATS, extra curriculars, etc. And it will show you how you stack up with the school and what will be recommended when applying.
