Ubaldo Jimenez shines as Colorado Rockies defeat Detroit Tigers 5-4 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ starter, Ubaldo Jimenez was impressive both with the bat and ball as he hit two RBIs and pitched five innings with an ERA of 4.68 in the Rockies’ 5-4 win against the Detroit Tigers at Coors Field, Colorado on June 18.
The batters failed to put any run during the first inning as the pitchers delivered curveballs and made some amendments by mixing the fastballs. The Rockies’ batters then stepped on the gas and blasted three runs in the second inning to get a 3-0 lead.
Jimenez singled to centre-field while Ryan Spilborghs and Charlie Blackmon both added two runs jointly. The second run was taken by Chris Iannetta to complete a three-run campaign when Carlos Gonzalez drove a single-run shot towards right-field.
In the third inning, the pitchers were on top as they threw the ball without giving any run. Fourth inning went in favour of the Tigers’ batters as they scored one run and reduced their lead 3-1. Jhonny Peralta doubled to right-field and Victor Martinez
posted a single run for the Tigers.
The Rockies extended their lead 4-1 in the fifth inning when Troy Tulowitzki completed a single on the double-run shot of Ty Wigginton towards left-field. Both teams contributed some runs during the sixth inning and moved their score-card 5-3.
Martinez and Andy Dirks both posted two runs for the Tigers when Ryan Raburn doubled to deep right-centre. Peralta was thrown out at home plate. On the other side, Chris Nelson struck a one-run homer (420 feet) towards left-field to extend the Rockies’ lead.
The pitchers maintained their perfect line in the seventh and eighth inning and did not allow any run. Jimenez permitted three runs on eight hits including three earned runs and struck-out five batters. He gave just two walks on his 83 pitches.
Jimenez commented on the game and said, “I ran too much. It hasn't been easy at all, to get the first one. It's been an adventure. It feels really good.”
In the ninth inning, Brennan Boesch singled to right-field and Alex Avila scored a single run to end the game 5-4.
