Ubaldo Jimenez traded from Colorado Rockies to Cleveland Indians – MLB News
Ubaldo Jimenez, apparently from no conceivable stretch of the imagination, had in his mind that he would be traded to the Cleveland Indians and be somehow informed about it half an hour prior to the game.
Colorado Rockies traded the star pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez to the Cleveland Indians before the Sunday game would commence, causing not only a flurry of debates. Especially awkward was the news for the player himself.
He said, “When I got to the bullpen, I was like, ’I don’t even know what I’m doing here, because (the deal) was a sure thing.’ I couldn’t even throw strike, because I didn’t have my mind on the game. I couldn’t focus."
To avoid disconcertment and a kind of amazement plus anguish it caused for Ubaldo himself, the Rockies’ team manager made it a case to quickly clarify the issue and dispel any impression it was hastily carried out for no comprehensible reasons.
While there were debates inside the Rockies’ camp, it was a kind of worrying factor for the Indians’ manager as well as Ubaldo was pitching even after the deal. However, he was quick to explain that the deal was not carried out before the game.
"The deal was not done before the game started," Antonetti said. "The parameters were set, but there were some logistical things to do. It was their decision to start him, and we were happy with the result."
Jimenez was subject to rumours lately partly because certain news outlets suggested that he did not enjoy any good relations with the pitching coach. Although both he and the pitching coach were quick to deny any such possibility.
When asked, the pitching coach Apodaca said, “That’s the furthest thing for the truth. I have a more open relationship with Ubaldo than any pitcher I’ve ever coached. There’s not a shred of truth to that."
Whatever the reasons were that have ultimately led to whatever has come to pass, the decision was more or less somewhat sorrowful for both the player and the team as well as it was not expected that he would leave so unceremoniously.
For now, the Indians’ Ubaldo will definitely want refocusing on the game despite the overwhelming sense of amazement that followed in the wake of this trade. The Indians certainly need Ubaldo more as the team has found it difficult to manage things.
After joining the new team, Ubaldo is expected to play with much more focus now as the memories reminiscent of his times in the Rockies will be in the future, not at a time when the second half of MLB is almost at an end.
