Ubaldo Jimenez’s pitching helps Colorado Rockies humiliate Atlanta Braves 12-3 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ starter, Ubaldo Jimenez had an extraordinary day with his pitching as he struck-out nine batters in his six innings pitches and gave the Rockies a 12-3 win against the Atlanta Braves at Coors Field, Colorado on July 19.
In the first inning, the Rockies blasted three runs to take an initial 3-0 lead. Troy Tulowitzki struck a three-run homer (402 feet) towards left-field while Carlos Gonzalez and Todd Helton added one run each to lift the momentum of the Rockies.
During the second inning, Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run homer (391 feet) to right-field and Dexter Fowler completed one run to give the Rockies a 5-0 lead. Seth Smith doubled off right-centre field and Tulowitzki added a single run. The Rockies were leading
6-0 after the third inning.
The Braves put their first run on the score-board during the fourth inning to reduce their lead 6-1. Dan Uggla hit a solo homer (416 feet) towards left-field at the top of the fourth inning. The pitchers struck-out the batters in the fifth inning without
gifting any run to them. Jimenez permitted just two runs on seven hits with an ERA of 4.00 and walked two on his 120 pitches.
At the top of the sixth inning, the Braves added one run when Uggla hit his second homer (431 feet) of the game towards centre-field. On the other hand, the Rockies stepped on the gas to smash four quick runs and got a 10-2 lead. Smith tripled to deep centre-field
and Helton scored one run. The last three runs of the sixth inning were taken by Smith, Ian Stewart and Chris Iannetta when Fowler drove a triple-run shot towards deep centre-field.
The Rockies extended their lead 12-2 during the seventh inning when Helton posted a single run on the sacrifice fly of Smith towards centre-field and Tulowitzki contributed one run on the double-run shot of Iannetta to deep right-field.
In the eighth inning, the Braves were able to add only a single run to cut their deficit 12-3. Eric Hinske was grounded out to second base but Brian McCann scored the final run for the Braves. Freddie Freeman occupied the third base at the end of eighth
inning.
With this comfortable victory, the Rockies tied the four-game series 1-1 at Coors Field.
