Uber Cup Finals 2012: Netherlands prevails as Chinese Taipei fails in opening match
It was a stunning start from the Netherlands in Uber Cup Finals as they overpowered Chinese Taipei in opening match on May 20, 2012.
The Dutch shuttlers literally earned this victory as they wrote an impressive chapter of resilience after losing first two games and ended this Group B match with 3-2 score in their favour.
On the other hand, the first two Taipei campaigners provided a dream start but other shuttlers could not follow the successful trail and walked away with low shoulders.
In opening tussle of the match, Women Singles expert Tzu Ying Tai bagged first match point by stamping Jie Yao of Netherlands.
Though, this battle prolonged to 56 minutes but the Taipei girl managed to stand all hands aloft by putting final figures of 16-21, 21-16 and 18-16.
However, sudden injury to her challenger played a major role in her victory as Jie Yao conceded walk over and paved path to triumph for Tzu Ying Tai.
The next were Women’s Doubles partners Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien to fetch vital point for Chinese Taipei.
They proved their supremacy by registering concluding figures of 21-10, 14-21 and 21-16 after sweating hard for 35 minutes.
This 2-0 match score position placed Taipei shuttlers in a commanding position as they were now just one point away from their opening win.
However, this distance never got covered as the Dutch campaigners put their expedition to halt by making a swift charge.
The Women’s Singles shuttler Judith Meulendijks kept her country’s hopes alive by winning third game of the match.
She put a commendable show of skills in an epic 59-minute tussle and entered a winning total of 21-13, 20-22 and 20-22.
In following game, Women’s Doubles team Ilse Vaessen-Paulien Van Dooremalen of Netherlands kept the ball rolling and brought match to the right balance.
They levelled match score by registering decisive figures of 23-21, 14-21 and 21-15 after three hard fought sets.
The fifth game of the match was supposed to be a nerve-racking contest as both countries were trying to save their honour but it proved a one-sided affair.
The Dutch girl Patty Stolzenbach fetched final point for her country with significant margin of 21-12 and 21-18.
