Uber Cup Finals 2012: Wang Yihan happy with her victory against Sung Ji Hyun
China’s ace player Wang Yihan is happy with her thrilling victory over Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun at the final contest of Uber Cup Finals 2012 at Wuhan, China, on Saturday, May 26.
Chinese team won this team-event tournament with a one-sided score of 3-0 against the Korean shuttlers.
The World Number One Yihan had to employ her remarkable skills to overpower her talented opponent Ji Hyun in the opening Women’s Singles fight in the title match.
The top seeded Chinese lost to the same opponent in the final of UBER Cup 2010. However, she remained lucky this time by denying her rival four match points and eventually nailed victory in a breath-taking manner.
Yihan played with courage and did not disappoint her home fans as she defeated her Korean opponent in hard-fought rubber games by working to her maximum potential for 86 minutes in the court.
After winning the final contest, Yihan said that she was extremely happy as this victory took all of her bad memories in the recent past.
She said, “I felt it was like a deja vu when I took a glimpse at the trophy. All those uncomfortable memories flooded back. It’s a milestone for me – now I can proudly say that I’m over the 2010 loss. I never thought I would cry on court, I could not hold
back my tears.”
She further added, “I have a bad habit of letting players reach match point. It is my weakness and I did it again and I need to overcome this.”
On the other hand, the lower ranked Ji Hyun put up thrashing show in the opening set and won it with a wonderful margin.
She got four match points in the second set but remained unlucky as her Chinese rival came from behind and grabbed the game.
In the final set, the Korean lost her focus and confidence and eventually bowed down to Yihan with a comfortable margin on the board.
The top seeded Yihan remained successful in proving her worth this time as she managed to defeat her lower ranked Korean opponent in the final match of Uber Cup with a sensational 14-21, 22-20 and 21-13 margin on the score board.
