Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations breaks series launch record!
The latest figures from Chart Track have revealed that the latest installment In Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations has broken the record for launch period sales.
The previous record had belonged to Revelations’ predecessor, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, but there is a new king of the Assassin’s Creed games.
The figures were calculated over the first seven days and while it pales in comparison to staggering figures that Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has managed to rake in. Ubisoft will be more than pleased that the latest installment in the series
has managed to put up such figures despite such strong competition.
Games such as Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Saints Row: The Third and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception were all released within a two weeks of each other and with competition like that what the latest Assassin’s Creed game has managed to achieve is nothing short
of commendable.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations managed to finish in second spot on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 charts in the United Kingdom in its record breaking opening week, however the Xbox 360 version post the larger percentage of sales in the chart.
One can expect the sales figures to go even higher in the coming weeks and months as the PC version of the game is yet to be released. While the console versions were released on schedule their PC counterpart had to be delayed as Ubisoft needed extra time
to fix a number of issues and give the game an extra layer of polish.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations marks the end of the Ezio Auditore de Firenze trilogy which began with Assassin’s Creed 2, during which gamers saw him grow from a boy to a master assassin. Revelations gave the icon of the gaming world a fitting and emotional
farewell and at the same time it also ended the story arc of another of the game’s iconic characters, Altair.
The assassin from the first game was more of a reserved character who had an aura of mystery about him, something that is explored in the final chapter of Ezio’s life.
However, another character that has been the pivot of the series, Desmond Miles, who is the modern day descendant of both characters, will have his story continue in the next game.
Speculation is already ripe of Assassin’s Creed 3 set to have a 2012 release window, yet the time period and storyline are still anyone’s guess at the moment. A number of rumours on the internet are suggesting that Egypt is a possibility, but at this point
in time everything should be taken with a bit of salt.
In the end however, the day belongs to Ubisoft as they toast themselves a glass of champagne for a job well done.
