It's not the problem of the UTP cable or the wired connection its ok.

I try to ping the Server IP address and it doesn't respond.

The server is Windows Based.

I put all the correct Subnet, DNS, host etc. but still it doesnt work.

I need a guide on networking in Ubuntu 8.

the network or the lan is enabled.

I need a step by step guide on how to do fix this.

  1. Well for starting here is the basic information

    http://www.debianadmin.com/ubuntu-networ...

If you can not ping, this first step should fix the issue.

(Be sure the windows server firewall allows ping * ICMP)

Then for windows connections - to active directory

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Active...

I assume windows server 2003 etc?
