Ubuntu Linux windows programs??

I have windows on my laptop right now, but ive had it with windows. I am thinking of switching to Ubuntu Linux. heres my question... can i run any microsoft program with the wine emulator? in particular sony vegas 8.0 and stuff like that.

Many Windows applications will not work on Linux even when using  WINE http://www.winehq.org/ , but there are many quality open source alternatives, but Linux in general is not suitable for gaming as support is poor. I think you should probably keep Windows whilst having Linux at the same time for now so you can give Ubuntu a test drive to see how you get on with it.

    You can install Ubuntu 8.04.1 using the Wubi installer. You keep Windows as it is, Wubi http://wubi-installer.org/ only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers.

    Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.
