Udo Hessels, Mischa Rossen and Marcel van de Veen aim for Paralympic Gold – Sailing News
After making a superb comeback on the fourth day of the 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta, the Dutch Sonar team comprising of Udo Hessels, Mischa Rossen and Marcel van de Veen had placed themselves on the second podium finish of the fleet standings.
They had a classy sailing show on the fourth day proceedings and made their way straight to the number two podium finish. They are now aiming to get their hands on the Paralympic gold medal after they repeat the same performance in the event.
While speaking to the local media about their ambition, the Hessels said that they are going for gold in London later this year, but they notice the sport has grown. Everybody is faster, but their rivals are for the most part the same competitors as eight
years ago.
They had some exciting competition in the Athens Olypmics 2004 and were able to hit the silver medal but this reward was not their goal so they said good bye to sailing. However, they came back in business in 2010 in the World Championships but they were
able to win it. Now they are determined to get their lost glory back.
Hessels added that their boat was still lying somewhere. They found out it was in a hothouse and not in a very bad state as they started sailing again and became world champions.
