South Africa’s Prakash Viyajanath has stormed into Men’s Singles main round after beating Uganda’s Jacob Musisi in the qualifying round of Uganda International Badminton Championships 2012 on Thursday, February 2, in Uganda.
Viyajanath, who was the top seed in Men’s Singles draw of qualifying round, had to play to his maximum speed to chuck out the local opponent in a thrilling three-set encounter.
Musisi put up superb show of fabulous badminton but failed to live up to the expectations in the deciding game and lost the rubber-set contest in 30 minutes.
In the first game, the lower ranked Musisi opened his campaign in a striking manner against the top seeded challenger and played to his maximum potential. He matched the speed of his opponent and remained close until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the score remained tight from both sides and reached at the ending phase. At this crucial stage, Viyajanath could not control the pace and lost the set with a narrow 19-21 score on the board.
In the following game, Musisi again played attacking badminton and did not let his higher ranked rival to take lead until the 60-second break in the game.
However, after the break, Viyajanath played to his maximum speed and managed to take a decent lead against Musisi, who executed a few negative shots. The top seed was focused in the ending points and won the set with a margin of 21-18.
In the deciding game of this superb contest, Viyajanath established his supremacy in the starting points of the set as he played with precision and did not make any mistake in setting up a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, Viyajanath continued his dominating run in the game and did now show any sign of slowing down his speed. He remained on the right track throughout the second set without sparing any room for his opponent to fight back in the game.
