Kenya 74/9 v Uganda 78/2 – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Uganda-c3031 won by 8 wickets
In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752, in a match of the ICC Africa Region Division One Twenty20, played at the Kyambogo Cricket Ground, Kampala, today, July 14, 2011.
Batting first, Kenya had set Uganda a sub standard total of 74. This was never going to be enough, as the host completed the rout with 33 balls to spare, having lost just 2 wickets in the process.
Earlier, it was Kenyan captain, Kennedy Ochieng, who won the toss for his side and elected to bat first.
However the proceedings did not go as planned, with opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Deusdedit-Muhumza-c53883, who cleaned him up.
This set the Kenyans back, as they were not able to get the Ugandan bowlers away. Though the second wicket fell in the 8th over, they had only posted 21 on the board. The Kenyans were in such abysmal touch, that by the end of 10th
over, they had not even reached 30.
However, the innings got some momentum, courtesy of their skipper, who remained their top scorer with an unbeaten 26, in which he struck 2 boundaries.
With seemingly little offered by the rest of the batters, Kenya slumped to 74 for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs.
No batter apart from Ochieng could reach the double figure mark as Ugandan bowlers took full use of their home advantage. Everyone in the Ugandan rank bowled to a perfect line and length. Muhumza was the most economical. Muhumza and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davis-Karashani-Arinaitwe-c53318 were
the teams’ top bowlers, with a brace each. Meanwhile, there were wickets each for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charles-Waiswa-c50401 and Abdulah Lubega.
As the host started their chase, they too suffered an early setback as opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vinit-Jayesh-Shikotra-c95372, who trapped him in front of the stumps.
However, the Kenyan joy did not last for long as a second wicket partnership between Abdulah Lubega and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Ziraba-c46087, guided their side closer to the target.
After settling down, both players accumulated easy runs as they put on 69, before Ziraba was unfortunately run-out on 28, due to some good fielding from Raj Savala.
With only 6 runs to win, Ivan Thawithemwira struck 2 fours to complete a resounding victory. Lubega remained not out on 36, in which he struck 2 fours and 1 six. He was rightly awarded the Player of the Match title.
Despite defending a low total, Kenyan bowlers bowled well, with the pick of the lot being Vinit Shikotra, the only wicket taker for his side.
Uganda will now take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nigeria-c2970 for the 3rd Place Play-off match on July 15, 2011.
