this was my old question ***I have a Panasonic 50" plasma tv which is about 2 years old (this model was only exclusive to 1 store) and I have a Monster Cable HDMI connected to tv and an LG Up-Converting DVD player. Now the problem is sometimes when watching a movie on the DVD player the screen goes blank for 2 seconds (happens at any time) and the tv comes off but i can still hear sound from my 5.1 surround sound. Now i got a 80gb Ps3 and connected the same HDMI to it. Now when i play it still does cut off at anytime for 2 seconds but the tv doesn't come off, it goes black then comes back to where i was. I know its not the ps3's problem since i had been using it on my lcd monitor for about 2 months and this never happened. This 2 second thing happends every other day or sometimes days. All the other connections (component, svideo etc) on the tv are hooked up, but never gives problems.I bought extended warranty for the tv and it expires in december, so im wondering what I should do***

New detail is, i got top spin 3 for ps3 and played i yesterday for about 4 hours. It worked perfect and then this morning i countinued and it was still good. Now I came home late, about 9pm the same day and loaded the game again. I started playing and realized that the sound didnt sound right, it sounded like the sound was muffled with a slight echo. I went to the main menu and realized the music wasnt playing in the background as it usually does. I restarted the system and everything worked as usual again. This had never happened. I didnt replace the hdmi cable or tv yet, its the same one. PLEASE EXPLAIN IN DETAIL.

  1. It is not uncommon for old TV sets to have HDMI sync issues. The HDMI spec is relatively new and testing procedures were fuzzy two years ago. Since you have warranty, call Panasonic. Perhaps a simple firmware upgrade will fix your problem.

  2. Try seperating your signal cables from your power cables. AC (Alternating Current) can induce current/EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) onto nearby conductors (cables) if the cables are not shielded.

I just started having a sound issue today AFTER I ran more cables through the same path as the rest. If I were not in an electronics career I would never have put the two instances together. I have not yet tried what I have suggested as it just dawned on me.

edit: Could this issue be temperature related? In other words does it progress as the system warms up?

I am also suspecting that HDMI cable quality may matter afterall. Although sites such as CNET Review says it doesn't. Bandwidth requires shielding and good contact between connectors.

==> Please let me know the outcome. Thx.
