okay so my dad thinks im too short to play the position i play for volleyball (all around middle) im 5'6" andd im the 10th grade. im ver short compared to the others. I play on the high school team and do play most of the game. im alot better than the other middles but because they are like 6 ft. they get looked at more than i do. my dad wants to get my growth hormones but idk. should i? it would increase my chances of me going to play college which is my dream. i have a good chance now, but if i grow like 4 inches then my chances of me not playing college are very thin. Help!?

  1. hey man

growth hormones will s***w you up, maybe not physically (though very possible) but also with the police

growth hormones are not legal in most states, not just use but possession (unless you're taking them for real medical reasons)

if you've reached the end of your growth spurt, then i'd consider trying to switch to outside/libero which are a lot less dependent on height and more on skill and colleges do accept players who are under 6 feet, shocker, i wouldn't have believed it myself

  2. Hey im 6'1 and i play middle!!!! if i were you no i would not use growth hormones. its not worth it. because you are on the team why would you want to go and change things?? you could switch to another position like setter or libero. and i was just wondering what is you verticle??? if you can jump that high and get over the net to block please teach me!!!! lol jk why would your chances be thin if you grow like four inches??? if i were you and you don't feel that comfortable plaing middle and think it could risk your chances of getting into collage i would most definately switch positions NOW!!!! just do whatever you feel is right!!! good luck :))))))

  3. It's not worth it. Growth hormones can possibly s***w up your growth plate. And make sure your dad knows that you are the one playing not him. I was a middle when i was in high school. Its rare to see a 5'6 middle. As you get older and if you play club ball you'll realize that most girls your size play back row, possible libero, and if your really good all-around.

  4. no way if your on the team then your good enough the way you are, you said you have a good chance as it is, then start beliveing it and you will do it! and there are side affects of the hormone its just too dangerous.

  5. ah no, growth hormones can s***w up really bad! and if so, that would definitely ruin your dream. If you get playing time even though you're 5'6, you shouldn't worry about it. Perhaps if you're well-rounded enough, if the college won't take you as middle, they could take you as OH (which tend to be shorter, from my experience), or DS. But I definitely think you can go to college without the growth hormones. Just work hard and play just as well (if not better than) how you have been playing, and colleges will definitely recognize you.

  6. You're great the way you are. Keep up the good work and strive! You don't have to be taller or shorter to be a great player. If you're a great player, then you are a greater player and no one can take that away from you! Not even your height. :)

Prove you're one of the very best (or even THE best) and people will notice YOU! :)

    Good luck! :D

  7. ohhh..

dont worry about those people around u..

    every middle players do that..

im a jv in boys volleyball,, and im 5'6 and i can hit..

just do everything to surpass them..

like practice ur jumping everyday so that u can jump high..

    and yeah..

probably they going to put me as a outside hitter..

i can hit angle, deep and line..

    so yeah..

    good luck..

dont hate ur self cuz ur short..

    hope it helps...

    =)

  8. Hey u don't need to be very tall to play volleyball.I am also 5'6" and it doesn't bother me at all.All u need is good is a very good jump and and good techniques!!

I have seen national players who are short but they a gr8 jump(the can kind of float in the air)

So don't be upset and go jump high!!

  9. It will be really hard to play middle in college w/ your height. If you are a good passer, you could be a libero or DS. The middles in college are about 6'1 on up.

  10. No way, even though you are short you can still play in college at the position you choose but just be open to all positions; if you have an amazing jump, and you are a good passer, setter, hitter, you increased your chances of going on to play at the college level.
