ok..I start a new job as an AT&T sales rep on Monday. You need to wear dress clothes, so I've been looking around like crazy for clothes. Here's the problem: chick dress clothes are so expensive!!! I bought 4 pairs of dress pants, and 5 dress shirts, and 2 pairs of dress shoes, and spent over 300 bucks! And I'm not shopping at expensive places here people...I'm talking kohls and stuff. So...seeing that even thats not enough, what should I do! I get paid every 2 weeks, and my commission doesn't kick in for 45 days, and I really can't afford very much more. Am I supposed to rotate 5 outfits for the next two months! Ugh...please help...ideas :(

Thanks guys

  1. You have a lot of clothes if they all coordinate.  Most people do have a handful of work outfits and rotate them.  You can add a scarf or vest or jacket, and make outfits look different.  Match the new stuff with what's already in your closet.  Don't forget, you're not going to see the same people every day, so they won't notice if you're wearing something over and over.  Pants are pants.  If you have 2 pairs of black pants or 10 pairs, who'll ever know.  The men you work with won't notice anyway, and the women are probably doing the same thing.  As long as you're clean, pressed and look professional, it doesn't matter.  I used to have a boss who had 5 outfits.  On Monday she wore the cranberry colored suit.  On Tuesday it was the black dress with the tan fan print.  If you forgot the day of the week, just look at Lynda.  My office was all women, and although someone might comment if something was new or pretty, we didn't care what the others wore.  Don't worry about it.

  2. That is a problem I totally understand you gotta do what you gotta do  Try fiding a value city or Belks believe it or not they have some awesome deals

  3. Stay away from the field of Law - jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!!!  This is NOT a good field to invest in right now!!!  We simply have too many attorneys.

Suggestion:  Go into the field of Healthcare <<< LOTS of jobs there!!!!

    Good luck.

  4. Well... if you mix and match the outfits you've got more than five. Even then, though, people will notice you wearing the same things over and over.

Do you have any friends you could borrow things from occasionally?

And don't knock Goodwill and thrift stores... I've never actually shopped there, but I have donated some really nice things before -- once I dropped off a $300 suit that I had worn twice because it no longer fit.

    Good luck!

  6. Kohls can actually be an expensive store, so can Walmart and Target. I know some people are picky about Consignment shops, and Goodwills, but the ones where I live are actually very nice, and one in particular actually sells new and gently used clothing. No one at your job would ever knew where the clothes came from, and if you are the type of person that really likes to bargin shop, then you would find that spending a couple hours in a goodwill, might yield you several brands name outfits for pennies on the dollar. If you do plan on visiting a good will or cosignment shop near you make sure you call ahead of time and ask do they have any special price day. The good will in my town, has $1 days on wednesday and everything with that colored tag on it is $1! You could wear a different outfit everyday of the year for that price!
