Uglies what is the setting?

pretty town

And can you explain each place? THanks

Uglyville -

Until kids/young adults turn 16, they live in Uglyville, which is sort of like a gigantic boarding school.  Everything is all futuristic just like all the other places is the series but there are a lot of rules.  And everyone there looks normal, before the operation (I'm assuming you know the plot?).

After someone turns 16, they leave for New Pretty Town -

Which is one big party town.  It's like being at a nightclub with Lindsay Lohan 24/7.  No rules.

After this, people are supposed to leave and become adults, or middle pretties, and go off living somewhere else, but that never really happens in the story.

Rusty Ruins -

Pieces of "old cities". Basically, our cities today, abandoned and decaying.  They've moved their cities to new locations and left the old ones to...rust.  If you've read the story, I think the track they talk about is a roller coaster, although they never directly say.

Smoke -

A camp where those who rebelled against the "Pretty" ways stay.

Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras is one of my favorite series ever.

These books are near future in a pretty horrible world. Some disaster has happened. We are not sure what.

I think if you read the books, you can describe those places.

pretty town - A town that never sleeps, full of hyperactive parties and unaging pretties.

smoke - A sanctuary for outsiders.

rusty ruins - The world left behind, unable to cope with modern advances and cynical minds.

this book is after now, so a dangerous bacteria spread into the air and destroyed practically all civilization. uglyville is for uglies waiting to turn 16, pretty town is for pretties who have undergone the surgery. the smoke is for runaway uglies who think prettiness=brainwashed, and the rusty ruins is what is left of regular buildings from our time.
