Ugo Monye excited about his return to England team – Rugby News Update
Ugo Monye, the 29-year-old Quins and England winger, is set to return to the England squad for their tour of South Africa, where they will play a three-match test series, along with two other mid-week games.
He has been named in the Head coach of England, Stuart Lancaster’s 42-man squad, and he is relishing the opportunity to add to his 13 English caps in the coming months. Monye, from an early age, showed promise at rugby. While at Lord Wandsworth College,
he was introduced to the Harlequins' U19 coach, Colin Osborne, by his teacher Tim Richards. He was offered a contract by the club, and he took the opportunity to play for them, earning his first England 7s call up later that year.
Moyne has been a Quins man since 2002 and most recently he signed a new contract with the club, which will take him up to the 2015 World Cup. He believes that it will give him the best opportunity of keeping the door open on an England return, and he believes
that when people do not believe you can make a return, it pushes you hard to prove them otherwise.
Under the guidance of Lancaster, England has become a more stable team, winning consistently and there is a new ethos in the team, which Monye feels will help him.
"Things are a lot better and a lot more stable now than they were in the couple of years I was involved with England," Monye said. "The results weren't exactly going our way. I feel if I am involved in the current England squad I will be able to fully show
what I can do."
He made his England debut against the Pacific Islanders in 2008 at Twickenham on November 8, 2008 but he will be most remembered by his try against the Springboks for the British and Lions tour in 2009. He scored a sensational try in the last test against
the Sprinboks, giving the Lions victory and he returns back to the country where he has happy memories.
"I closed that chapter on a good note. It was the best day of my life, it was such a powerful moment and I am hoping there will still be more of them to come."
