Ugo Monye out injured – Rugby News Update
Ugo Monye, the 29-year-old Harlequins and England winger has received a head injury, and it is likely that the player will miss out on the third test against South Africa, this Saturday.
England was playing their second midweek game against the South African Barbarians (North), on Tuesday, and the winger who has been out due to a hamstring problem was playing his first game. He received a head injury during the game, and received treatment
on the field before he was stretchered off. The winger was hoping to make the final test of the series, but it seems his season has been cut short due to the head blow.
Stuart Lancaster, the head coach of England, was happy with the 57 – 31 victory but was upset that his winger had received an injury, and provided clarification on his health.
He said, "Ugo was knocked out during the tackle. He was taken to hospital but he has come round and he is fine, albeit a bit groggy. I have only just had medical updates but I think he will be travelling back with us. He will go through the concussion protocols
and he will struggle to be fit for Saturday."
Captain George Robson also reflected on the victory, saying that it was a good experience for all the young players, and they never lost sight of victory. Robson was ecstatic with the victory, saying that it will build momentum before the final game of the
series, and England will provide a stern test to the Springboks.
Lancaster also reflected on the last tour game and said, "There are lots of positives we can take positives from the performance although there were one or two areas where we let it slip, particularly in that third quarter defensively."
After impressing for the Harlequins at the domestic level, he received his international debut against the Pacific Islanders at Twickenham, on November 8, 2008, and played further tests against South Africa, New Zealand and Australia that year. However,
he has only played 15 matches for his country since making his debut and his last match at the international level was against Scotland, on March 13, 2010.
