We removed 6 trees at my grandmothers house. When we removed brush and limbs we found a tattered birds nest! We discovered 4 Robins, 2 of which died from falling out of the tree. Ive tried to find some way to put them back. The mother is no where to be seen, ive even watched from inside the house the last 2 days. So now they have come inside with me. The closest animal rescue center is in Columbus, Ohio. I cant afford to drive down there with the gas prices! These birds are almost ready to fly! They have all their feathers except on their bellys!

How do i feed them?

What if they arent eating what i offer to them?

What else can i do?

  1. Take them to a local vet. They'll be able to help them there.

Thats what i did when i found a very dehydrated baby bird in the storm drain awhile ago.

  2. Good for you for helping them. Thye are to eat Exact handfeeding formula for ALL birds. Feed them every 3 hrs or so. The younger they are the more they eat. Use a syringe to feed them.

If they arnt eating there just in shock. When they are hungary, they will cry a lot. Youmay have to open there mouth to feed them to get them use to the food. As they open ther mouth to cry sqeeze a lil at a time and whent ehy are fool they wont cry anymore or will not open there  mouth anymore. If he is pecking at the ground or at somthing. You can buy some bird seed and mix it with some mealworms((Cut The Mealworms Heads Off And Feed A Couple A Day)) The mealworms i there head isnt cut off will eat the birds insides. Killing them. You can Only buy the mealworms from petstore and dont give them worms from the ground, bacteria will hurt them and only the mom can break that down.

Make him comfy and safe. He may be too attached to you to release and will not be able to servive on his own. Man people on here will tell you to take him to a rehaber. SOme I herad kill them but it could be false. SOme are fakes so beware. also he can eat berries and bananas lil peices. Mine loves bananas. The more time yo spend the closer he gets.

DOnt use a straw, it can cut there mouth. The formula shoud be warmed a lil for a couple seconds not hot to burn crop. DONT give them water. If they can sit and hop on perch, then they can drink on own sometimes. They have enuff water in the formula to be ok wiht. Refridgerate after and warm every meal. If left out it will spoil.

email me and I will tell yu know about my bird that is a bethbethani@yahoo.comweet and is so wonderful pet to have.

    Good luck!

  4. First and most important; do not put liquids in a birds mouth, never feed worms,  bread, milk.. Do not use a syringe, instead feed using a stir stick or a straw cut to a spoon,  If you are feeding it  needs to be fed a dog food based diet blended to the consistency of oatmeal.  Can a rehabber drive to you to pick them up, have you called them?  If you are releasing the babies handle them as little as possible.  I have raised starlings and they have the same dietary needs as robins.  Starlingtalk would be a great website to for you to read and it contains the proper recipe needed for feeding.  Please read my profile....

  5. You should have just let them where they were.  The mother is still around, they always are and they always know where their young are.  You broke up a family.  Put them back.  It's is illegal to do what you have done. They are fledglings and  their mom is probably looking for them.  Just because you did not see her does not mean anything.  If she were not still feeding them, they would be dead.

  6. It's sad that the trees were removed during nesting season.  That should always be avoided.

You should not have brought the birds indoors, and you should not be attempting to care for them.

There is no way that you could have supervised the nest non-stop for two days.

If the parents didn't return to the nest for two days to feed them, the chicks would be dead by now.  The parents don't stay at the nest when chicks are that old, they only stop by to feed, and they start long before the sun comes up.   They were being fed - you just didn't notice it.

If there is to be any hope for their survival, they must be returned to their parents - where they belong.  If the birds are able to perch, set them in the low branches of a bush or shrub in the original location and leave the area so the parents can return.  They will not approach the nest while you are threatening it.

There are only two options for these birds.  Their parents or a licensed rehabber.

Rehabilitation isn't a matter of feeding them and tossing them outdoors.  There is so much more to it than that, and you are simply not qualified.

As for the rehabilitation clinic, you should make sure there aren't any closer to you.

Check this link for worldwide listings:

    http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact....

In the US, rehabilitation is regulated by the Federal government and State DNR (Dept of Natural Resources), or Dept of Fish and Game. Services are free to the public, as all native wild birds are protected by federal law.

There are several sites with listing of rehabbers, although the easiest way to find one is to search Yahoo! or Google for "wildlife rehabilitation" + your state (try both full and abbreviated). Also search on DNR or DFG + rehabilitation + your state.

You may be able to find a contact for a nearby rehabber through your local humane society, animal shelter, or police department.

Links are also available on these sites:

If you are going to pick up protected wild birds, only do it if you are sure that it's the right thing to do, and only if you are transporting it to a licensed rehabber.  Otherwise, leave it alone.
