will the uk ever adopt the euro as currency? i see from yahoo homepage that tourism is really down due to the strong pound. im sure other areas such as banking make up for this. but in the long term is it an inevitability? what about if/when the scots go for independence? will that affect the situation?

  1. The pound is weak compaired to the Euro; and no we will never adopt it.

  2. No, it's unlikely to adopt the Euro in the forseeable future. A more likely scenario is that either the UK leaves the European Union, and/or Scotland becomes independent and adopts the Euro on its own.

Tourism isn't the backbone of the UK economy and hence isn't the most important factor when it comes to Euro adoption. One big danger of adopting the Euro is that London would lose its special status as a financial centre, meaning that large banks and other organisations would relocate to the continent.

  3. I'm affraid, not. UK must change their constitution before change their currency.

  4. Not for a long while.

Tourism isn't anything like a major factor in this.

I've lost track of how many times The UK has been able to adjust its interest rate to suit the UK economy, independently of Europe.

It remains an important financial resource.

Setting one interest rate for the UK is difficult enough.  For the the Euro zone it's seriously problematic.

  5. UK will never adopt the Euro. It will kill the economy. The pound is stronger. The pound used to be the world trading currency. Now the dollar is and its nost strong enough to hold it.

  6. A lot of MP's have directorship status with banks and other financial institutions. As the UK money market makes a fortune out of currency transactions, and directors pay usually includes bonuses, there is a great disincentive for the UK Government to adopt the Euro. Also the british people would be able to see at a glance how much more they have to pay for everyday items. No political party could weather that storm!

  7.   For a french the main problem with the UK is not that much "when

they adopt the Euro ? " but when at last they leave the EU -

  8. I doubt we will ever take the euro. The £ may be strong but the only way we will change is if the constitution changes or if scotland become independent and take the euro on its own, or lastly if the UK breaks away from the EU

  9. The UK will NEVER adopt the Euro.  If the government actually listened to the population, the country would IMMEDIATELY come out of the EU.

  10. I hope not, but who can say? Look how Blair and Brown have already ignored the British people on so many matters when it comes to Europe!

And has anyone noticed how similar the two pound coin is to a Euro? It's like they are softening us up!
