  1. I know. Eventually we probably will. I know they are working on one to go across the Atlantic to Europe, but I want one to the UK.

  2. I think it's entirely plausible.

Hannah is totally right, yet wrong at the same time, 5 cm a year isnt really enough considering the length of the atlantic ocean, so it would be easy to fix it to one country and add 5 cm more tunnel every year in the USA. As for the magma, it shouldnt be much/any problem, just have the tunnel raised slightly above the sea bed.

The only reason it hasnt been done is that if would take alot of resources to build it and maintain it.

  3. Well duh, because it's over 3000 miles, stupid!

  4. I doubt they ever would...In the Atlantic Ocean we have the mid-Atlantic ridge. This is the line defining two tectonic plates (the African and the South American), and the plates have been drifting apart for millions of years, about 5cm each year. If we were to build an underwater train, where would it go? On/under the sea floor - the pressure would be too immense and how would we even dig that low, even with our technologies today the laws of physics still stand. Then we have the ridge issue, it's too dangerous to build a train track..on the ridge of two tectonic plates when they are moving apart 5cm a year (the tracks and foundations would collapse and would have to be reinforced every year - costing billions) with magma filling between the gap of the plates.

As much as I would like it to happen myself, it can't be done - at least not in this day in age or anytime soon.
