With so many young drivers involved in accidents, do you think the minimum driving age should be raised and if so to what age?

  1. My thoughts on the matter are that the age limit is correct. At 17 you are a grown up ready for responsibilities. I believe the Driver Training should have a minimum of say; 250 hours (but then you get into the expense of it all, which wouldn't work) and that the Driving Test should be more intense. I passed my test in the UK with a 30 minute drive (with the usual required maneuvers) and went on to gain licenses in all categories with the Armed Forces. I went into Intense Driver Training and drove everything with wheels.

(In the US I passed my test without any required Lessons and the test took literally 10 minutes!!!! I didn't do any maneuvers at all! The driving standards over here leave a LOT to be desired!!)

  2. I'm 20 and I'm a very responsible driver, I know guys who are in their late 20's and are awful on the road.

I think people should stop assuming its always young people that cause the accidents, what about the older people who passed their test a long time ago.

I think they should instead put more police cameras on the roads, and re-test people every 10years or so.

Its about responsibility, maturity and confidence, not age.

  3. since the drinking age is now 21, so should the driving age

  4. Not all young drivers are irresponsible; a great many older drivers are irresponsible, so no I don't think the minium driving age should be raised.  Nor do I think that there should be cost implications; there will always be the rich brats whose fathers can and will afford anything for their irresponsible offspring.  Maybe licences should be changed so that you have to drive without accident or points for a couple of years before you can go above 900cc for example, following that through in grades so that you cannot drive the most powerful vehicles until you can show you have driven safely for (say) 13 years - age 30 for a 17 year old.

  5. no its not about age when it comes to driving

oh and ayrbabe the legal drinking age in the uk is still 18 not 21

  6. I dont think it would help that much. New drivers will always be excited no matter what their age. Its just something that needs to be handled in a different way. Its not that these people dont know how to drive because they do as they got their licence but they just choose to be stupid. If they did raise the age  think it would just increase the number of illegal and uninsured drivers.

  7. no. but I do think a car that is limited to a certain speed is a better idea. and if they had one of these they could have cheaper insurance, then it would clearly show who the boy racers are, by the car they drive, and show a responsible teenager by the limited speed car, all of them should not be penalised for the few nutters, some of them actually really need a car but cannot have one for the insurance cost. I feel sure if they were offered a limited car they would take that rather than pay the insurance companies.

  8. Yes.  Raise it to 21 when the teen nutters would have slightly become more responsible.

  9. It's a matter of experience, not age. Even if you raised it to say, 24, the number of accidents among beginners would be high. And what about the perfectly responsible 18-year-olds who never have an accident?
