Uk only - How much benefits would I get if I work 16 hours I am a single mum to 1 child? ?

I have used entitledto.co.uk Does this sound right?

If I work 16 hours and earn £120 gross,

My rent is £205, council tax £15, & childcare would cost £100ish.

I get £5 from CSA, and £18.80 Child Benefit.

So Entitled to calculates:

£198.85 Tax Credits

£2.61 Council Tax Benefit

£179.72 Housing Benefit

= £381.18 weekly

+ £18.80 Child Benefit

+ £5.00 Maintenance

+ £115 wages

+ £60 In work credit payment (for 52 weeks only)

= £579.98 Weekly

- £100 childcare

- £205 rent

- £15 council tax

= £259.98 Weekly compared to £120 on benefits.

Any single mums out there know if this sounds right thanks??

  1. That's a little adventurous. do bare in mind though, the council use tax credits as an income, the council will allow you to earn about £230 a week before they start deducting money from your housing benefit entitlement. The way its worked out is your total income (which includes, tax credits, maintenance, in work credit payment and wages) which equal £378.85, you are allowed to earn £230 a week, so you have an excess income of £148.85 a week, the council only use 60% of that when they reduce so, you'd have a weekly reduction of about £89.31 because you earn over £230 a week. so your housing benefit will only be about £110 a week. so your average weekly income would be more about £191.26. i haven't taken off childcare costs because 80% of those will be paid by the government through your working tax credits. so you will only pay 20% of your childcare costs.

£259.98 is a little adventurous, i've only calculated on estimate of how the council worked out my rent, i shouldn't think they change there rules just for me. trust me the council will not allow youto be earning £259.98 after all your monthly expenses and still pay the most of your rent, housing benefit is means tested meaning the more your earn the less you receive!

  2. I think if you're a single parent on a low income you shouldn't have to pay any council tax at all.  Not too sure about the rest, but just thought I'd let you know what I'd been told about council tax!

  3. so you work for 16 hours a week and your total income at the end of that week is £259.98?

for f*cks sake. im off to get pregnant.

  4. near enough yeah. everytime i have used entitled to they have always under estimated what i get. it is really nice when tax credit send me my renewal each year for more than what i had calculated. it is worth parents working nowadays.

  5. that lucky i'm a single mum, i work 20 hours a week and own my own house. I don't get half of that!

  6. No you wouldnt, I am single and pay nursery fees, and rent.

Unfortunatley you can have the rent or the nursery fees not both, you may get a reduction in your council tax but thats about it.

  7. I wouldnt make guesses simply because if its wrong you'll be dissopointed! you'll get a desent amount. If you call your local citizens advice buro they will help you and tell you exactly what you can claim and how to do so.

    hope this helps.

  8. Sorry, no clue... I use US currency only.

  9. when u get tax credits they also pay up 2 80% of your childcare as long as they are registered provider. you should also get rent rebate as it is a low income job. i have 2 kids an without childcare my tax credits 4 workin 31 hrs are £160 so u will get much more check with lone parent advisor at local jobcentre they will help make sure evrythin is correct. good luck.

  10. Wow i really need to leave my husband, i work 16 hours a week and get F**K ALL in benefits, maybe that's why my husband pays 40% tax because they give away so much money
