Is there a website that simpily lists all the laws a police officer has to know.

I want to be a police officer when Im older and it would help to get a jump start. I can find sites that have laws but so far I haven't found one site that will list all the uk laws that a police officer has to know in order to uphold the law.

  1. Hiya, you can ask here on this forum.

    They will know, good

  2. I t isn,t the laws the "police" have to know, that you you need to worry about,...It,s the laws that it suits them to use,... when they want to!

  3. It's actually not that complicated, to be trained as a police officer you only need a comprehension of what's right or wrong. If you think about it, you will already know what is illegal, you won't know exactly what you can do about it.

    During your training, you will be given the definition of offences, on the basis of those definitions you will learn your powers.

    The laws themselves are very involved and heavy reading, but armed with the definitions you can more readily identify and act on them, the lawyers deal with the more in depth points.

    You can get a head start by googling The Theft Act, Road Traffic Act and sexual Offences Act, but don't scramble your brains trying to read it all, it's not necessary.

  4. I don't think you really have to know the laws, that's up to the lawyers to know them when you take the cases to the relevant court.  The police officer's job is to investigate, gather evidence etc, not argue the law in court.  I'd agree with the above answer, you kind of know what is legal or not, I guess part of it comes with experience.

    Having said that, there are laws covering what police do, such as PACE 1984 - which I assume you will need knowledge of, but I wouldn't recommend trying to read all of that.

  5. To be a Police Officer in the U.K. you need to have a very comprehensive knowledge of the Law. I don't know details but one answerer has given you a few.

    However, the various Police Forces have Recruiting staff who, I'm sure will be only too pleased to give you advice. Write to your local Force and explain your enthusiasm. You will find their address in the Telephone Directory.

    There are a number of Correspondence courses which advertise Police Recruitment as subjects. Try an Internet search.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Here you go - every law in the UK;

  7. U will probably find out that it's like on-the-job training,c 'mon, do you think all the polis know all the laws? if they did, they would probably be Q.C.s!!!!
