Ukraine wants to be a part of F1 sometime soon
2010 has been quite a revolutionary year for Formula Once since the sport has expanded itself to various parts of the world, including Asia, with the Indian Grand Prix expected to take place in 2011. However, with everything going
so smoothly, it is a little difficult not to get carried away with this globetrotting and since FIA’s CEO is 80 years old, it seems that it is even more difficult for the FIA to rein itself in.
After a handful of successful and illustrious new venues, it seems that Bernie Ecclestone is eager to build even more. According to the latest FIA reports, it has officially been confirmed that the US Grand Prix will be staged
at a new venue in Austin, Texas in 2012 along with a Russian Grand Prix as well.
A new track for the US and even a Russian Grand Prix is exactly what Formula One wants. However, since the sport is going through a terrible financial crisis, the FIA will have to slow down their pace and at least take some time
before making such big decisions.
According to some rumours, the FIA is thinking of an African Grand Prix as well and recently it was revealed that the Ukraine also wants to be a part of Formula One. Since most of the tracks are officially signed until 2016, how
can the FIA plan on holding so many Grand Prix’ in a single season?
Most of the team bosses stated that a 19 race season was quite long and hectic for the teams and in 2011, there are going to be 20 races which some of the professionals are against. However, the teams have agreed to a 20 race season
and stated that this should be the limit. But with what Bernie Ecclestone has in mind, it seems that the drivers and teams will have to kiss their families goodbye and build houses on the tracks themselves.
Nevertheless, the officials stated that after building an international-level circuit in a city in Ukraine, they are now hoping for a Ukrainian Grand Prix in the near future.
The head of the State Department, Anatoliy Prysiazhniuk talked about the track they are going to construct during a press conference and revealed that the 5.2 km track will cost them $1 billion.
“We will build an international track in the Polissia and Ivankiv districts in order to host international competitions. I saw the project, and experts from Europe assessed it,” he said.
The organizers are building this track especially for F1 and of course, it is going to be interesting to see what they come up with.
“The project was drafted by a person from Denmark who built the tracks in the [United Arab] Emirates, Singapore and other countries. The track will meet all modern requirements [including grandstands, access roads and hotels],”
he said.
