Ukraine’s Larisa Griga and Spain’s Pablo Abian clinch singles title in the Polish Open International
Ukraine’s Larisa Griga crushed Yuka Kasunose of Japan in the final of women’s singles, whereas Spain’s Pablo Abian defeated Vladimir Ivanov of Russia in the title match of the Polish Open International 2011 at the indoor arena in Bialystok, Poland, on March
28. Larisa took only 36 minutes to get rid of Yuka in straight games, whereas Pablo consumed 40 minutes to chuck out Vladimir in a straight-set match.
The number three seed of the event, Larisa delivered an impressive performance throughout the event and won all of her matches in straight sets. In the final showdown, she started the game confidently against Yuka who participated in this event as a qualifier.
The Japanese lady played wonderful badminton in all of her previous matches to make it through to the final of the event.
Both ladies put up a good show in the opening half of the first set and reached at 9-9, where Larisa scored two consecutive points and took a narrow lead of 11-19. After getting back on court from the one-minute interval, the Ukrainian played better game
and maintained the gap to finish the opening set in just 19 minutes with a 21-16 margin.
In the second set, Larisa again remained ahead throughout the entire set by playing an attacking game. Larisa finished the set with a good margin of 21-15 by spending just 17 minutes on court. The concluding score of the final match was, 2116 and 21-15
In the final of men’s singles, the number two seed Pablo showed no mercy to the eighth seed Vladimir in the opening set of the match. The Spanish was playing at his best as he spared no room for the Russian to dominate the game. Pablo won the first set with
a big margin of 21-14 by spending just 21 minutes in the court.
Vladimir accelerated his speed in the starting points of the second set but his opponent was more accurate in the execution of strokes. His spinning net play and powerful smashes earned him many points in the second set. The Spanish won the second set by
a stunning margin of 21-12 in just 19 minutes. The final score of the match was 21-14 and 21-12.
